A fanlisting is a gathering of fans of a particular subject, who add their name to a list in support of that subject. In this case, we're talking about the Disreputable Dog, who becomes erstwhile best friend and faithful sidekick to Lirael in the novel of the same name.

While I've always loved Mogget best, I've found an undeniable soft spot for the Disreputable Dog. Whether it's mostly the Dog herself, or the deep and lasting friendship between the Dog and her mistress, I have yet to really sort out. No matter what the case, the Disreputable Dog is a courageous, witty, and quirky companion throughout the second and third books of the trilogy. Just as Lirael is never without her friend, neither are we. She carries us through to the very last scene, and her presence comforts us as much as it comforts the heroine. Now that I think about it, that's probably why I've always been attached to the Dog. Not only is she Lirael's best friend...but by the end of the series, she's your best friend, too. (Besides, she grows suckers on her paws when crossing slippery bridges...)
